Saving an Image from the Internet to Your Personal Computer LTA (Easy)

A Low Threshold Application (LTA) is a teaching/learning application of information technology that is reliable, accessible, easy to learn, and non-intimidating. Each LTA has observable positive consequences, and contributes to important long-term changes in teaching and/or learning. The user of LTAfs whether that person is the teacher or learner should perceive the LTA not to be challenging, or requiring a lot of additional work; rather, the user should find the LTA helpful with quick and meaningful results. Below you will find three categories of LTAfs: easy, moderate, and hard. Simply click on the LTA under the category that you are interested in and you will be linked to a set of simple step-by-step instructions relating to your item of interest.

We are always looking for LTAfs. If you are interested in submitting one, please email kahnp@mail.montlcair.edu.

LTA Overview
There are many reasons to capture, or download and save materials from the web. Some of the reasons one might wish to capture an entire webpage, or even an entire website, to onefs own computer are:

  • archiving a site that may disappear in the future
  • selecting only parts of a long page or site for further use

The Adobe Acrobat Writer software that can be used to capture webpage(s) is in a Portable Document Format (better known as PDF). PDF files are compact and can be shared, viewed, navigated, and printed exactly as intended by anyone, with free Adobe Acrobat Reader software, which you can easily download from the web. You can convert any document to PDF by purchasing Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Capture, and other similar software.

LTA Level
This LTA is geared to users with little or no technical experience. It is designed to familiarize the user with the process of creating a PDF resulting in an understanding of why PDF file formats are used.

LTA Outcomes
By working through this LTA, the user will be able to take a website or webpage and archive it for future use.

Requirements for Completing this LTA
The user should be comfortable working with a computer and be familiar with general file types. Users should have previously installed in their computer Adobe Acrobat (full version, also known as Adobe Acrobat Writer) to capture a website/webpage into PDF. The user should have downloaded and installed Adobe Acrobat Reader (or Adobe Acrobat Writer) in order to be able to open the PDF files.

LTA Instructions
One of Acrobatfs functionalities is capturing an entire remote site or any part of it. For example, you can use Adobe Acrobat to automatically capture the entire Montclair State University website.

There are many other uses for web capture. You may download and save newspaper and magazine articles for future reading and research. Adobe Acrobat makes this process simple for the average user.
