Getting Connected

NOTE: You will need to have your MSU NetID username and password.

1. Connect the Cat 5 Ethernet cable between the Network Card on your computer and the data jack in the wall.

NOTE: There are usually 2 BLACK data ports on the box except in the Village, where the data port is always the BOTTOM one. If you live in a triple room plug in the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet splitter. For more information refer to the Triple Rooms page. Most network cards have two lights -- one will remain solid when connected (often labeled "link") and the other will flash when data is transmitted or received (often labeled "data").

2. Attempt connecting to the Internet by starting your browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer or other). You will be redirected to the Montclair State University Network Registration Server page where you will begin your registration process. Please follow the onscreen instructions carefully. You must complete the Montclair State University Network Registration process to have access to the Internet.

If you experience any problems with the Network Registration process call the Computer Helpdesk at x7971 for assistance.
