Contract Services for Special Events

Technology services for special events that occur outside of normal classroom instruction for members of the Montclair State community incur a $15.00 per hour labor charge (plus 25% for payroll expenses). The non-profit community incur a $20.00 per hour labor charge and for profit, companies are charged $27.00 an hour; a minimum of 3 hours with an hour set-up and an hour break down time. Technology Solution Center must have 7 to 10 days NOTICE of the request from Marsha Young, the University's Conference Services Coordinator in the Student Center, in the form of a written contract. It is strongly recommended that the user emails their request to Marsha Young and Help Desk when requesting these services. There is never an equipment rental charge for members of Montclair State's community. All the money goes directly to the student technician and payroll expenses.

Mediated Instructional Sites
The link below will direct users with a MSU Net ID to a list of mediated spaces on campus. There are over 120 rooms with TV/VCRs and 226 mediated instructional sites that are owned and suupported individually by various colleges, schools, library and IT. Please review the information in the link below and contact the respective owner or the Helpdesk if you have any questions. https://oit.montclair.edu/resources/techsites.html

Camcorders
Faculty and Graduate Assistants may borrow digital camcorders to record their classes. The digital camcorders are simple to operate and the TSC will provide training by appointment. Faculty may also arrange for students to reserve and borrow camcorders under their name by e-mail or by letter on University stationery. TSC can also recommend the purchase of digital camcorders.

Network Connections
The Helpdesk (x7971 option 1 or helpdesk@mail.montclair.edu) will make arrangements or confirmation for network connections. They will forward these requests to the appropriate Information Technology group. Computers may need to be configured for a particular room or building. Please plan for rehearsal time at least a day before your event for special presentations with computers, data projectors, network connections, and telephone lines. Have a contingency plan.

Contingency Planning
Even with a rehearsal, hardware, software and network connections can fail. If you are going out on the Internet, have a simulation on a CD Rom/DVD or USB thumb Drive in case the network fails. If you are doing a PowerPoint presentation, have the Power Point slides with materials to hand out. If possible, have a video related to the topic or have your presentation recorded and ready to go.
