Help Desk Operations and Suggestions

Prior to contacting the University Help Desk, please view some common troubleshooting tips that you can use to resolve some of your computer problems. If the below suggestions do not help resolve the problem, please call please contact the Technology Solutions Center at 973-655-7971 or email us at Helpdesk@mail.montclair.edu for information to help resolve the issue you are experiencing.

  • Is your system turned on?
  • Are all the wires and cables plugged in?
  • Are any of the cables loose or unplugged?
  • Has there been any changes to the machine in the past couple of weeks?
  • Has the machine been moved?
  • Are there other people in your office experiencing the same problem?
  • After restarting the computer did the problem reoccur?
  • When entering in password information, have you checked to make sure that the caps lock key is not on?
  • When trying to compose webmail, have you tried turning off the pop up blockers?
  • When did the problem first start?
