Buying a Printer

PRINTERS

Below is a list of six networked printers that OIT recommends and fully supports. These printers were carefully researched and selected with the intent of identifying the greatest common factors related to printer requirements for faculty, staff, administration, and students. OIT fully recommends to our users and supports these printers; our Information Technology support staff are fully trained to support these networked printers.
While it may be the case that other printers appeal to you for purchase, choosing an alternative must be weighed against the fact that the Information Technology Unit cannot guarantee as high a level of support as would be provided with the recommended standard configurations.

Additionally, it is important when purchasing equipment to consider the benefits of the University at large as well. The majority of the cost of owning a printer comes from the maintenance and support of the device. Industry research shows that less than one-third of the total cost of ownership is represented by the actual purchase price of the device. To the extent that we are able to standardize on hardware and software configurations, enormous financial and operational benefits accrue to Montclair State University. Therefore, choosing to forego these recommended builds is discouraged unless there would be a compelling pedagogical or administrative reason.
NOTE:All printer purchases must include a 3 year warranty.

OIT currently recommends and supports Hewlett Packard brand laser printers.

HP Color Laserjet:
Personal Printing:  Color Laserjet CP2025N*
Workgroup Printing:  Color Laserjet CP3525N
Large Scale Printing:  Color Laserjet 5550N

*Please Note: For personal printers, please make sure you purchase an USB cable to connect to the printer.
