New Student Information Guide

As a new student, you are probably wondering what some IT services are that you should be aware of.

NetID – Your NetID is your ticket to many services on campus.

• E-mail - You will receive a Montclair.edu email address with your NetID, to receive information about campus and from your professors.
• Blackboard - Blackboard is the system that we use to complement our classroom courses. Professors can post notes here, make announcements, post grades, and even give exams.
• Parking Services – Parking services has a system called E-park. Using your NetID, you can buy your parking permit, for parking on campus.

So now that you know what the MSU NetID is for, you are probably asking, “Where do I get my NetID?” well here is a quick guide to getting your NetID.

1. To be eligible for a NetID, you must be registered for classes for your up-coming or current semester.
2. The NetID account form can be found at http://NetID.montclair.edu
3. Log into the proper section with your ID number and PIN number. If you forget your PIN number, you will need to contact the registrar office at 973 655-4376. Student login can be found on the left. Your ID number will be your Campus Wide ID number (CWID). This is the same login number you use for Web Enrollment Services for Students (WESS).
4. Once you log in to the NetID account form, you will have to agree to the guidelines for responsible computing. Scroll to the bottom of this page and type in “YES”.
5. On the next page you will be asked to set your NetID password. You password must meet the following conditions.

a. Only Alpha-numeric characters are allowed.
b. The total length must be a Minimum of 8 characters
c. The password must contain a Minimum of 2 numeric characters

6. Once you see the confirmation page, showing that you have successfully created your NetID. Please note that it may take 1 business day for certain NetID related services to take effect.

• Library E-reserves – For classes, professors can reserve documents for you on the library’s e-reserve service. To access this service, log in through http://library.montclair.edu/
• Resnet – As a student living on campus, you will have a high speed internet connection in your room provided by ResNet. For more information about this service, and how to register your computer, click here.
• WESS – WESS stands for Web Enrollment Services for Students. As the name suggests, this is the system you will use to find, and register for classes. You can also use this system to map out your major, print out your schedule, and find your grades.
